What is Involved in a Full Mouth Restoration?

Cosmetic dental reconstruction can involve any or all of the following:

Dr. Viloria will explain your course of treatment before any procedure starts. He will also give you estimates on the number of visits, specialists involved, and how long it will all take.

After Your Full Mouth Restoration

It can take some time to get used to the feel of a new bite. Whenever your bite is altered or the position of the teeth is changed, it takes several days for your brain to get used to it.

It is also very normal to experience some hot and cold sensitivity in your mouth. The teeth need some time to heal after removal of tooth structure, and will be sensitive in the meantime. Your gums may also be sore for a few days. Don’t be concerned if your speech is affected for a few days as well - you will adapt quickly and be back to normal in about a week.

You can use simple, effective measures to minimize the discomfort you will feel after the procedure. Warm salt water rinses ( a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day will reduce the pain and swelling. A mild pain medication (one tablet of Tylenol or Ibuprofen every 3-4 hours) should ease any residual discomfort. It the extensive oral surgery is fully completed, Dr. Viloria will prescribe any additional pain medication that is necessary.

Maintaining Your New Smile

Establishing strict at home bushing and flossing regimen and keeping all follow-up appointments is the best way to ensure your new smile will last. Try to avoid foods and substances that can easily crack, chip, damage or stain your new teeth (such as beer, peanut brittle, ice, fingernails, or pencils) and don’t chew sticky candies. Smoking will stain your beautiful, new teeth, as will coffee, red wine, tea and berries. It may take a little bit of an adjustment and lifestyle change but it will be worth it. Remember the time, effort and money that you have invested in restoring your smile. This should help you to avoid those things to keep out of your mouth when possible. If you are involved with sports, or if you find that you grind your teeth at night, ask us about protective mouthguards or nightguards. Again, this is highly worth the small investment. You’ll get used to the guards in no time and you will have a gorgeous smile to show for it.
